Two Together Railcard FAQ

Before Purchase
  • How does a Two Together Railcard work?

A Two Together Railcard is a type of UK Railcard that offers discounted train fares for two people traveling together. Here's how it works:

Eligibility: To be eligible for a Two Together Railcard, you must be traveling with another person aged 16 or over. The two individuals must be named on the Railcard.

Discounted fares: With a Two Together Railcard, you can get a 1/3 discount on eligible train fares for both individuals. The discount applies to Standard Anytime, Off-Peak, and Advance fares.

Validity: The Railcard is valid for one year from the date of purchase. During this period, you can use it as many times as you like.

Booking tickets: To benefit from the discount, both individuals named on the Railcard must travel together. When booking tickets, you need to select the Two Together Railcard option and provide the Railcard details.

Restrictions: For times, the Railcard discounted tickets cannot be used between 04:30 am and 09:29 am Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), same to the tickets, such as Season tickets, Oyster cards, and more.

Remember to have your Two Together Railcard ready during your journey, as you may be required to present it along with your tickets to the train conductor.

  • What is better: a Two Together Railcard or a Senior Railcard?

The choice between a Two Together Railcard and a Senior Railcard depends on your specific circumstances and needs.

Two Together Railcard: The Two Together Railcard is designed for two people who frequently travel together. It offers a 1/3 discount on train fares for both individuals when they travel together on Off-Peak services. The only time you can't use your Two Together Railcard is during morning peak times, which is before 09:30 am Monday to Friday. This card is suitable for friends, partners, or family members who often travel together and want to save money on train tickets.

Senior Railcard: The Senior Railcard is available to individuals aged 60 or over and offers discounted fares on train travel. It provides a 1/3 discount on a wide range of train tickets, including both Off-Peak and Anytime tickets. You can travel from any time on weekends, bank holidays, and weekdays except between two stations inside London and the South East area during morning peak times. This card is ideal for seniors who travel frequently and want to save money on their train journeys.

Ultimately, the better option depends on your specific situation. If you frequently travel with a specific person, such as a partner or friend, the Two Together Railcard may be more beneficial. On the other hand, if you are a senior and travel alone, the Senior Railcard can provide you with substantial savings. Consider your travel habits and companionship to determine which Railcard is more suitable for you.
